The 50mm lens from Canon is a great lens for a reasonable price with enhanced sharpness and contrast. Offering great low light level capabilities with a wide appeture, it also allows for a bokeh effect which is ideal for portraits.  It's fixed focal leangth allows for a view similar to the human eye making it great for a wide range of shot types.
